A Journey to Inner Fulfillment
Does your soul thirst?
Do you know what it is to have a soul that thirsts? I’m not talking about loneliness, sadness, temptation, desire, or appetite; I’m talking about something that goes beyond feelings and is not perceived with your senses but strongly affects how you think, feel, and act.
After the fall of our first parents, Adam and Eve, we lost something that can only be found in the one from whom we lost it, namely, God. Grace goes beyond feelings. When we are lacking in grace, we have a certain emptiness inside. It’s part of our human nature to abide in God.
So, we end up with something missing inside, yet we can’t feel it, but we feel its effects. Since “it” is part of our nature, we can’t help but seek “it.” We seek “it” without realizing what “it” is.
Believe it or not, you were created by God and for God. God defines everything about you. We were made to be happy, joyful, and peaceful in Him, even amidst extreme suffering.
“Peace, I leave with you, my peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled, or be afraid” John 14:27 (underline is mine)
God wants us to have inner peace. When we can’t find it, we start to look for a substitute, an earthly substitute. A house built on sand. A reality based on lies.
After the Lord gently knocked me off my high horse and revealed Himself to me, I dedicated time to praying daily. Several years later, the Lord began to teach me a relatively new way to pray that quickly brings anyone into a close personal relationship with the person of Jesus.
Through this prayer, the Lord heals and leads the person to remove those blocks that keep us from Him. He forgives our sins, takes away our guilt, teaches us to trust Him, and fills us with His Love.
One day, after an intimate moment with the Lord, after about two weeks of “praying” in this manner (I say “praying” because, at first, I didn’t consider it as prayer), I noticed that the temptation to sin was still there, but the force behind it was gone. I remember saying, “Well, Lord, thanks for the break today. It was great!” Then I experienced the same thing the next day, then the next. As long as I was faithful to this particular method of prayer, which has its basis in the teachings of St. Theresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross, He was steadfast in filling my heart (when I wasn’t well, you may know, the story).
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me; you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.” Matthew 11:28-30
The ultimate purpose of Quenching the Soul's Thirst is to help bring about a personal relationship with God and, as a consequence of this relationship, healing and peace. This is brought about by a straightforward, systematic prayer method. The blocks to peace are within us. We are the problem, not God. God wishes all of us to enter into His peace.
“Peace be with you.” John 20:19, 21, and 26

Why is this method so effective?
Those who practice this method of prayer testify that it is very easy to practice and is highly effective in renewing and transforming one’s spiritual life. Here is a brief explanation of why it is so effective.
We are all created in the image and likeness of God. We can perceive in us a finite representation of the inner life of the Holy Trinity. Our mind and intellect can be compared to the first Person of the Holy Trinity. Our belief can be compared to the second Person of the Holy Trinity because belief is born from knowledge tested with reason and judged true. Our emotional and spiritual life can be compared to the third Person of the Holy Trinity because they depend on and proceed from the unity between knowledge and belief.
Gaining knowledge is the easy part; we only must learn it from others or our thoughts, imagination, or experience.
Belief is not so easy. We cannot directly force ourselves to believe in something at will. We must first know what is to be considered. Then, with reason, we automatically, mainly on the level of semi-conscious and subconscious, test the truths we have learned and come up with conclusions. These conclusions (whether objective or not) form our belief system. Our belief system is a separate part of us that resides in the heart (curious enough, recent scientific studies have concluded that there is brain tissue in the heart, and the brain and the heart are in constant communication). Considering this, one marvels at the Sacred Heart Devotion of Jesus and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
When we gain knowledge in the head and believe it in the heart, another seemingly separate yet intimately connected part of us is moved: our emotions and human spirit. Emotions typically cannot be transferred without the unity between the knowledge of something and the belief in it (true or not).
This is where we, as humans, run into trouble. After the fall of Adam and Eve, our intellect and ability to reason have been significantly dimmed. And, because we live in a fallen world, the conclusions we come to and the belief systems formed in our hearts are greatly affected negatively. When evil situations occur in our lives and the lives of others, we begin to blame God because the evil seemingly occurred without His swift and direct intervention. Because of the evil that surrounds us, we falsely judge God. Then, what we have learned about the loving nature of our heavenly Father is put into serious doubt, creating a division between the mind and heart, which will directly affect your emotions and your spiritual life. Since we are created by Him and for Him, our souls continually thirst for Him. To deny the truth of God’s existence frustrates and causes all kinds of ailments to the body and soul.
We all have preconceived ideas about who God is and about God's personal love for us. We say we believe in God’s love, but most know He loves us because we’ve read it in the catechism, heard it during sermons, or had people tell us that God loves us. Because of the lack of unity between what we know to be true and what we believe to be true, our emotions and human spirit are thwarted. The Holy Spirit is also thwarted since we deal with divinely revealed truths. This unity between what we know and believe is essential for spiritual birth and growth.
This is why so many people are getting such benefit from the prayer method advocated in Quenching the Soul’s Thirst. Since a big part of reasoning is based on information gathered with the use of the senses, through the instrumentality of the imagination, we can replace the erroneous conclusions we have made about God with the truth. Since our subconscious doesn’t distinguish between what is imagined and what is real, we can imagine our loving God in a way that we objectively know Him to be and therefore replace erroneous belief systems with life-giving truth as revealed to us in the Holy Bible.
Since, by your efforts, you are seeking God, He is not slow to manifest Himself to you in a very tangible way.
Your belief in God is in unison with your loving knowledge of Him. Now your emotions and spirit are awake. Now the Holy Spirit becomes an active part of your life, bringing you wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, fear of the Lord, peace, and healing. Now you are filled with power from on high, enabling you to overcome temptation and live as God intends.
I invite you on this journey, which will enable you to love God with your whole mind, your whole heart, and your whole soul.
